Swince flu has spread. Rapidly, and since yesterday. Welcome to the 2nd May 2009 update. We are now facing human to human transmition; this cannot be contained anymore. Nothing to worry about then? Again, this depends on what country you are in. Whatever way you look at the situation we are looking more and more like a world heading for a global pandemic.
So let's get down to business? All figures are correct as of 11am BST @.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_swine_flu_outbreak
We now have 17 deaths world-wide:
- 16 in Mexico
- 1 in the United States
- A further 101 suspected deaths are in Mexico
There are 665 confirmed cases world-wide:
- 397 in Mexico
- 162 in the United States
- 55 in Canada
- 15 in the UK
- 13 in Spain
- 5 in Germany
- 4 in New Zealand
- 2 in France, Costa Rica and Israel
- 1 in Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Hong Kong, South Korea and the Netherlands
More alarmingly Mexico, the United States, Canada, the UK, Spain and Germany have confirmed human to human transmition. These countries are over 2 continents, thus making this fit the requirements for a level 6 alert, a pandemic. However, the World Health Organisation, has the alert level currently at level 5. There are around 350 probable cases out of just under 5000 suspected cases. There are 44 countries with confirmed or suspected cases.
