Is It Getting Tired?

In the last week the number of people that have died from H1N1 was 175. This prompts the question.. Is Swine Flu Getting Tired? The decrease comes in the time where many more children have returned to school. However, governments accross the world have had a chance to react and people have become more educated about the disease. So for this reason: WE MUST LOOK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE.. Here.

I'll try and update this as often as possible, but the posts won't be as awesome as they were before.

Is There Anyone Out There?

This is my first post for a few months, how is everyone?

Since the last time we spoke the situation has gradually got worse. There have now been 4013 confirmed deaths worldwide, and 458 of these have been within the past 7 days. The worse place statistically is South America with 295 of those 458.

I'm still here, i'm not dead yet, what about you?

Desperate

The WHO has decided to keep the H1N1 outbreak of swine flu at level 5. All the latest numbers can be found from Wikipedia. I'm sorry for the short updates - I am just increasingly busy at the moment.

Desperate: I'm desperate to keep the blog updated. It may mean short posts for a while but please put up with it. You can email me: stuart_wright1@hotmail.co.uk

I Need To Revise Guys

There are many more cases to read about, found here as I need to revise. In the UK it is widely recognised that swine flu is just a secondary news item today. The main news must be that of Katie Price and Peter Andre's divorce. Read about that here, it's massive.

I Need To Revise Guys: Sorry for the short update. Exams are important.

- All the numbers are from Wikipedia, correct at 22:30 GMT+1, BST.

Obama has made a huge U-turn today. Telling people that swine flu is of concern after 1st telling people to not be concerned by swine flu at all. I'm glad to see he has clearly been following my advice, as well as the advice of other professionals. The story from the BBC can be seen here.

Longer Than Britney's 1st Marriage

Welcome, to the 8th May 2009 update of Swine Flu Daily. The blog that is updated daily with the latest information and news on swine flu. This is my week anniversary so there are some special features to look forward to. Enjoy! Doom and gloom seems like the best way to start this special edition. Deaths 1st? Here are those all important numbers.

Currently there are 48 confirmed deaths world-wide:
- 46 in Mexico
- 2 in the US

There are also 101 suspected deaths around the world:
- 100 suspected deaths in Mexico
- 1 suspected death in Canada: More on this later.

A huge rise to 3487 confirmed cases around the world:
- 1714 in the United States
- 1364 in Mexico
- 214 in Canada
- 93 in Spain
- 39 in the UK
- 12 in France
- 10 in Germany
- 7 in Israel
- 5 in Italy and New Zealand
- 4 in Brazil
- 3 in the Netherlands and South Korea
- 2 in El Salvador
- 1 in Argentina, Austria, Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Ireland, Poland, Portugal, Sweden and Switzerland.
- This means that there are confirmed cases in 26 countries, spanning 5 continents.
- Some countries have chosen to stop reporting suspected cases. This means that I will cease to display them from today onwards as they are not reliable. I will tell you on a daily basis how many countries have suspected cases. Today 43 countries have suspected cases.
- All figures are correct from Wikipedia, at 22:00 GMT+1, BST.

I earlier told you that there is a suspicious looking death in Canada. This is extremely worrying as there are only 2 confirmed deaths in the US. These are both in the southern state of Texas, that borders with Mexico. An older lady died in Alberta, she had been suffering from H1N1 flu. The story can be read in full over here.

I criticised the UK government yesterday because I felt that they had funded another pointless survey. Today however they have shocked me again with the announcement that they are buying, wait for it, 227 million face masks. This is almost 4 times the population of Britain. This is despite the BBC reporting, and myself also stating, that these surgical face masks are almost useless when protecting people against swine flu. People might as well carry guns, and shoot the flu when it comes near. It just doesn't work.

The masks that are ordered should look like this. Well, maybe not. But we can always hope. I'd have the centre top one, or the one right middle one. These masks do actually exist and have been seen on the streets of Mexico. The government should be buying masks like this if they want us to survive.

In the latest news, the reason for the outbreak has finally been uncovered and can be viewed here. The pigs are taking over, it appears George Orwell predicted this. Learn what I mean here.

Since I started this blog several people have told me that we had all this hype about bird flu, H5N1, and nothing really happened. Want assurances that this is different? Just look at the numbers, they should speak for themselves. We have human to human transmission and confirmed cases in 5 of the 7 continents of the world. There are almost 50 people dead. We are already facing something much bigger than H5N1, and we are only getting started.

It is also important to remember that you can still eat pork products. Make sure you wash your hands regularly during preparation and cook the pork properly to kill any virus that may be present. It is as safe as before to eat at Chiquitos: a Mexican themed British franchise restaurant. You can eat there and 90% of the time still be healthy, you will just have to put up with poor food.

Longer Than Britney's 1st Marriage: Swine Flu Daily has been around for a week today. That is why I have celebrated by writing an extra long post today. I wish to thank anyone that has read this loyally. To date, I have had 400 independent page views, and 33 votes on my poll. I hope to keep updating the page daily. Remember that you can email me: stuart_wright1@hotmail.co.uk.

The blog is officially hosted at Blogspot. If you scroll to the bottom of that page you can see details on how the blog is licensed. If you plan on using any of my work then you must take a look at the license. It can also be views here. On the page there is a poll, that closes in 6 days. We also have Google Ads that I urge you all to not click. You can comment on the posts, share with your mates and subscribe using numerous subscription services or an RSS feed.

PS. Don't fly. Unless you want to get swine flu. Just don't fly.
PPS. Updating tomorrow.

Who Needs A Raise?

The massive increase in confirmed cases on a daily basis, that I have been reporting, appear to have slowed. On the 7th May 2009, there are under 200 more confirmed cases around the world. But we will leave these details until later. Exams may be cancelled around the UK, seeing students being awarded their predicted grades. Numbers are important in exams..

There are 46 dead around the world:
- 44 in Mexico
- 2 in the US
- 100 further suspected dead in Mexico

A relatively small rise to 2390 confirmed cases around the world:
- 1112 in Mexico
- 913 in the United States
- 201 in Canada
- 81 in Spain
- 34 in the UK
- 10 in France
- 9 in Germany
- 5 in Italy, Israel and New Zealand
- 3 in South Korea
- 2 in the Netherlands and El Salvador
- 1 in Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Hong Kong, Ireland, Poland, Sweden, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Portugal and Colombia
- This means that there are confirmed cases in 24 countries, spanning 5 continents.
- The statistics on suspected cases are now less reliable since Canada and Mexico have stopped reporting suspected cases. I am led to believe there are now over 4000 suspected cases, with over 800 of these probable, in 42 countries around the world.
- All figures are correct from Wikipedia, at 21:35 GMT+1, BST.

Today, the Department of Health in the UK have asked the public if they believe swine flu has been "hyped" by the media. See the story here. Well done UK government for financing another pointless survey. Why are we not asking experts this. Instead of random people that don't really know the full story. So therefore cannot give a valid opinion. If these people do not know all the the risks, they cannot answer this question. Many people do not know the latest facts about swine flu.

WHO have felt it necessary to reissue their statement to "avoid any misunderstanding" on the safety of pigs and pork products when it comes to swine flu. It can be viewed here. It basically says that there is a chance that swine flu could be caught from pigs and pork products. They also says that as long as pork products are heated to 70 oC (degrees Celsius), the recommended heat anyway, at their core then all trace of virus is killed.

The blog is officially hosted here. There is a poll, a share button making it easy to share this blog with friends and comments are allowed on the blog.

It's my week anniversary tomorrow, so expect an update.

Good Mourning

Many more Mexican deaths today, it is 6th May 2009. H1N1, is it going to be the end of us all? There have been more Mexican deaths as well as another American death today.

I am 15. Today it emerged that the median age for swine flu cases in the US is 15. Should my year and I be worried? Probably! My maths exam was today, seems like an excuse to do some numbers?

Good Mourning:
- 42 dead in Mexico
- 2 dead in the US
- 100 more suspected deaths in Mexico

A sharp rise to 2267 confirmed cases around the world:
- 1112 in Mexico
- 831 in the United States
- 160 in Canada
- 81 in Spain
- 32 in the UK
- 9 in Germany
- 7 in France
- 5 in Italy and New Zealand
- 4 in Israel
- 2 in South Korea and El Salvador
- 1 in Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Hong Kong, Ireland, Poland, Sweden, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Portugal, Colombia and the Netherlands
- This means that there are confirmed cases in 24 countries, spanning 5 continents.
- The statistics on suspected cases are now less reliable since Canada and Mexico have stopped reporting suspected cases. I am led to believe there are now over 4000 suspected cases, with over 800 of these probable, in 37 countries around the world.
- All figures are correct from Wikipedia, at 22:25 GMT+1, BST.

As I previously stated, my 1st exam was today. However, my exams that are approaching could be cancelled if WHO raises their alert level to 6. I'm quite sure that nobodies fingers around the country are crossed.

The alert level could still rise. In the UK, Ian Dalton, has been appointed the man in charge of the swine flu outbreak. He is being nicknamed the "Tsar of Swine Flu". Do we remember what happened to the last Tsar of Russia? He was killed. Are we tempting fate?

The blog is officially hosted here, where you can easily share with friends, do the poll, look at past blogs and have your say by commenting.

Night night for now, but there will be an update tomorrow. Is that almost a week?

Tamiflu Please ?

It is 5th May 2009, and we are totally screwed. 27 dead, almost 1500 confirmed cases, is it time to panic yet? Not according to the World Health Service, who currently still have the alert level set on 5. However, the world is expecting it to rise to 6, and soon. Let's play the number game?

Currently there are 27 confirmed deaths:
- 26 in Mexico
- Still just 1 in the US
- 101 suspected deaths in Mexico

Tamiflu Please?: The massive rise to 1478 confirmed cases:
- 806 in Mexico
- 405 in the United States
- 140 in Canada
- 57 in Spain
- 28 in the UK
- 9 in Germany
- 6 in New Zealand
- 5 in Italy
- 4 in Israel and France
- 2 in South Korea and El Salvador
- 1 in Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Hong Kong, Ireland, Costa Rica, Portugal, Colombia and the Netherlands
- This means that there are confirmed cases in 21 countries, spanning 5 continents.
- The statistics on suspected cases have become much less reliable since Canada and Mexico have stopped reporting suspected cases. I am led to believe there are now about 4000 suspected cases, with over 800 of these probable, in 42 countries around the world.

If you are reading this and running a country, you might be interested to know that the World Health Organisation suggests you keep your borders open. Your welcome Gordon.

Quite possibly the worst newspaper in the whole of the UK, the Daily Mail, has published a story on a 12 year old, who thinks swine flu is like a cold? Idiot. Only a newspaper like the Daily Mail could print such rubbish, people are dying. Fact. I urge you to go against the theory that 12 year old's are always right and be at least slightly concerned about swine flu.

The blog is officially hosted here, and if you want some advice, or you want to learn about the symptoms click here. On the main page I have a share button, so you can share the blog with your mates. I also have contact information and a poll.

I have a maths exam tomorrow, but I'll try to get an update in.

- 101 in Canada

- 8 in Germany
- 6 in New Zealand
- 4 in Israel
- 2 in France and El Salvador
- 1 in Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Hong Kong, South Korea, Ireland, Costa Rica, Italy, Colombia and the Netherlands

Since yesterday the amount of confirmed cases world-wide has risen rapidly. It is with this news that I welcome you to the 3rd May 2009 update of Swine Flu Daily. Anyone up for some numbers?

All numbers are correct according to Wikipedia @ 13:45 GMT+1; BST.

We now have 20 deaths world-wide:
- 19 in Mexico
- 1 in the United States
- 101 more suspect deaths in Mexico

Status: Confirmed. There are 872 confirmed cases world-wide:
- 506 in Mexico
- 222 in the United States
- 85 in Canada
- 20 in Spain
- 15 in the UK
- 6 in Germany
- 4 in New Zealand
- 2 in France
- 1 in Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Hong Kong, South Korea, Ireland, Costa Rica, Italy and the Netherlands

Some of the world is in panic about swine flu, I urge everyone not to panic, it will not help anything. This picture clearly shows the panic happening on Twitter. My blog is hosted here, we have a poll and a nice new button at the top right that allows you to easily tell your friends on social networking sites. I want you to not click the Google Ads, if you do I get money.

Let's Get Down To Business

Swince flu has spread. Rapidly, and since yesterday. Welcome to the 2nd May 2009 update. We are now facing human to human transmition; this cannot be contained anymore. Nothing to worry about then? Again, this depends on what country you are in. Whatever way you look at the situation we are looking more and more like a world heading for a global pandemic.

So let's get down to business? All figures are correct as of 11am BST @.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_swine_flu_outbreak

We now have 17 deaths world-wide:
- 16 in Mexico
- 1 in the United States
- A further 101 suspected deaths are in Mexico

There are 665 confirmed cases world-wide:
- 397 in Mexico
- 162 in the United States
- 55 in Canada
- 15 in the UK
- 13 in Spain
- 5 in Germany
- 4 in New Zealand
- 2 in France, Costa Rica and Israel
- 1 in Switzerland, Austria, Denmark, Hong Kong, South Korea and the Netherlands

More alarmingly Mexico, the United States, Canada, the UK, Spain and Germany have confirmed human to human transmition. These countries are over 2 continents, thus making this fit the requirements for a level 6 alert, a pandemic. However, the World Health Organisation, has the alert level currently at level 5. There are around 350 probable cases out of just under 5000 suspected cases. There are 44 countries with confirmed or suspected cases.

I have recieved many page views from people on facebook, and I wish to thank them for looking at my blog again today. I also urge you to post a link on facebook, or tell your friends that want to understand swine flu.

This blog is officially hosted @.. http://swinefludaily.blogspot.com
That page has a poll on how concerned you are about swine flu, as well as Google Ads, that you don't click, if you do then I get money. Updated tomorrow, as promised.

The Story So Far..

The 2009 Swine Flu Outbreak began in Mexico, to date, it remains the most affected country. The strain, H1N1, is a strain of influenza, or flu. The World Health Organisation, or WHO, now have this H1N1 strain at alert level 5. This means they feel a pandemic, which is a world-wide outbreak of the strain, is imminent.

The flu was first confirmed in Mexico on April 12th 2009, when a small outbreak of flu-like illness was reported to the Pan-American Health Organisation. A death in Mexico came the next day, April 13th 2009, this was later confirmed to be this strain of swine flu.

The illness spread all over Mexico, not just in Mexico City, and then, over the border to the United States. Cases started to be reported in California. The 1st American death came on April 29th, when a 23 month old baby in Texas was killed by the disease. During the time between the 13th and 29th April 2009 the virus had spread around the world.

As I write on the 1st May 2009 at 3.00pm GMT +1, British Summer Time, the current statistics look like this:

-There have been 13 confirmed deaths;
*12 in Mexico
*1 in the United States

-There are a further 168 suspected deaths;
*All in Mexico

-There are 524 confirmed cases throughout the world;
*312 in Mexico
*109 in the United States
*34 in Canada
*13 in Spain
*8 in the UK
*5 in Germany
*4 in New Zealand
*2 in Costa Rica and Israel
*1 in Switzerland, South Korea, Austria, Ireland and The Netherlands

-There are over 4000 suspected cases around the world;
*Almost 2500 in Mexico
*Over 400 in countries that have not already been mentioned
*Almost 250 of these suspected cases are currently probable.

This information is taken from www.Wikipedia.org, and the www.BBC.co.uk

Several questions come to mind like, "Am I at risk?", "What does this mean for me?" and "What should I do to protect myself?".

Whether or not you are at risk depends on what country you live in. If you are in a country that has confirmed cases then you may well be at risk. You should go to a doctor immediately if you feel any symptoms of swine flu. These being:
- Tiredness
- Loss of appetite
- Sore throat
- A cough
- Vomiting or Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Fever
- Runny Nose.

If you are feeling these symptoms, then it is very important to be checked out immediately.

If you are feeling fine then at the moment swine flu does not mean too much for you personally, it may be affecting members of your family or friends. To protect yourself you must pay lots of attention to basic hygiene; wash your hands with warm soapy water; cough and sneeze into a tissue; and clean hard surfaces on a regular basis. If the World Health Organisation, WHO, raise the alert level to 6, we are currently at 5, then it will mean closure of most places that many people come together at. Schools in Mexico and the United States have already been closing.

Eating cooked pork products will not harm you. It is also worth baring in mind that face masks, as I'm sure you have seen on the news, are not very effective. Swine flu can only be treated with antiviral medication, such as tamiflu. It should not be taken without a prescription.

On the "BBC News At 10" on the 29th April 2009, 2 predictions of outcomes were questioned. The 1st is a grim prediction, that 2 million people around the world will die. This could happen, don't panic! However, another theory suggests that the strain will die out over summer before emerging stronger in winter. The hope is at that time we are better prepared for an outbreak.

This blog will be updated again tomorrow, 2nd May 2009, with the latest news, if you can't wait until then, please feel free to visit: www.bbc.co.uk/news it is always good at supplying the latest information. If you have any concerns or worries, or if you just want to correct or contact me, then you can email me @.. stuart_wright1@hotmail.co.uk
